PUBLISHER

SHARKBAIT PRESS

Sharkbait Press specializes in publication of satire and humor, including books, comic books, and graphic novels. The primary author is Marcus P. Meleton Jr. who formed Sharkbait press to publish his first book after receiving extraordinary rejections by multiple New York Publishers. Since the 1990’s his initial satire on relationships, Nice Guys Don't Get Laid, continues to sell and go through reprints. The author continues to receive requests for interviews internationally for ‘Nice Guys’ as well as the books that followed. To date Marcus is approaching 2,000 radio interviews. He has been covered in dozens of national publications and several national television appearances.

The books that followed continued his unique societal views. In a twisted version of lawyer joke books, Marcus created Hunting for Lawyers: A Modest Proposal, because Lawyer joke books are not satisfying enough. His book proposes legalization of a lawyer hunting season, conducted compassionately and “legally” as a way to reduce lawyer herds to an environmentally manageable population.

Mr. Meleton continued writing with a foray into comics with The Adventures of Liberal Man. Liberal Man is a Dudley-Do-Left superhero who wears his bleeding heart emblem on his left sleeve as well as multiple bumper sticker emblems on his tights to demonstrate his compassion superiority over lessor beings. His missions are well-meaning, entered with great enthusiasm, at best the results are confusing and unintended. At worst whoever he intended to help will be hurt the most. Never forget. intentions trump results so it is always a win.

More recently, Sharkbait Press produced the acclaimed Pete the P.O.’d Postal Worker. Pete is not your typical superhero. Pete is a working man’s hero. He is obsessed about delivering mail but his boss hates him so he puts him in neighborhoods he hopes will kill him.

Sharkbait Press would not exist if not for the responses Mr. Meleton received when he queried New York publishers about Nice Guys Don’t Get Laid. Turns out, satire and bitter, angry editors just don’t mix. Same for satire and bitter, humorless people. After multiple curt rejections on preprinted rejection letters, one rejection sent him on his mission to form Sharkbait Press.  The standardized, typed rejection letter came with a personal note scribbled at the end to add emphasis. After saying the publisher was uninterested, the editor hand wrote, “This should NEVER be published.” If not for that, the “Nice Guys” book likely would not exist and the author would have continued the grind of an Engineering life. Nice Guys Don't Get Laid, continues to sell after 3 editions and 4 printings. Its referenced for required reading in a college level sociology course. It was presented at the National Mensa Convention and was translated and published by a Greek publisher because, as to be expected, women are Greek to them as well. Meleton’s entry into comics with The Adventures of Liberal Man was unique in that a Political Superhero series is unheard of but made a mark. It resulted in nine issues and a graphic novel that still sells. He received over 100 radio interviews and print media coverage from coast to coast from the LA Times to the New York Times. Pete the P.O.’d Postal Worker produced 14 issues to date in the series, a graphic novel, and an outrageous children’s book in old style formal, all of which continue to sell. Available through Amazon and SharkbaitPress.com
